Un nombre décimal positif est écrit en notation scientifique
lorsqu'il est sous la forme a×10p où :
- a est un décimal tel que 1<=a<10.
- p est un entier relatif.
Exemples : en notation scientifique
- 2007 s'écrit 2,007×103.
- 0,003 s'écrit 3×10-3.
La notation ingénieur est semblable à la notation scientifique, hormis que
p est un multiple de 3 et que 1<=a<1000.
La notation scientifique est notamment très pratique pour avoir des ordres de grandeur de décimaux,
et pour comparer deux décimaux entre eux.
