Hyperbole équilatère

Une hyperbole est dite équilatère si ses deux asymptotes sont orthogonales.

On a les propriétés suivantes :
  • Les hyperboles équilatères sont celles dont l'excentricité vaut $\sqrt 2$. L'équation réduite d'une hyperbole équilatère est donc de la forme $x^2-y^2=a^2$.
  • L'hyperbole $y=1/x$ est équilatère. Plus généralement, dans le repère orthonormé formé par ses asymptotes, une hyperbole équilatère a pour équation $xy=k$.
