Equation aux différences

Une équation aux différences est l'analogue discret d'une équation différentielle. Précisément, une équation aux différences est une équation dont l'inconnue est une suite et qui relie plusieurs termes d'une même suite. Par exemple, les suites récurrentes de type $u_{n+1}=f(u_n)$ sont l'exemple typique d'une équation aux différences.

On utilise souvent cette terminologie lorsque l'équation qui lie les termes est linéaire (ce qui justifie d'ailleurs le terme "différences"). Précisément, on dit que la suite $(u_n)$ satisfait une équation aux différences linéaire d'ordre $k$ s'il existe des réels $a_0,\dots,a_{k-1}$ et une autre suite $(v_n)$ tels que $$u_{n+k}+a_{k-1}u_{n+k-1}+\cdots+a_0 u_n=v_n.$$

On dispose de plusieurs méthodes pour résoudre les équations aux différences. L'une des plus employées est la transformée en Z.
