Matrice augmentée
Si on considère un système linéaire $AX=B$, la matrice augmentée du système est la matrice obtenue en ajoutant à la matrice $A$ la matrice $B$ comme nouvelle et dernière colonne : $$(A|B)=\left( \begin{array}{ccc|c} a_{1,1}&\dots&a_{1,p}&b_1\\ \vdots&&\vdots&\vdots\\ a_{n,1}&\dots&a_{n,p}&b_n \end{array} \right).$$ Par exemple, pour le système $$\left\{ \begin{array}{rcl} x_1-x_2+2x_3&=&1\\ 3x_1+x_2+x_3&=&4 \end{array}\right.$$ la matrice augmentée est $$\left( \begin{array}{ccc|c} 1&-1&2&1\\ 3&1&1&4 \end{array}\right)$$
La matrice augmentée est un outil commode pour résoudre des systèmes linéaires en évitant de répéter à chaque ligne les variables utilisées.
