Jean III Bernoulli (4 novembre 1744 [Bâle] - 13 juillet 1807 [Bâle])

Jean III Bernoulli, qu'il ne faut pas confondre avec son célèbre et homonyme grand-père, est un des membres de la famille Bernoulli. Il semble posséder des dons extraordinaires alors qu'il est enfant, accumulant un savoir encyclopédique et obtenant dès l'âge de 19 ans la chaire d'astronomie à l'université de Berlin. En regard de ce début de carrière tonitruant, ses contributions à l'astronomie ou aux mathématiques sont bien modestes, et s'il a laissé son nom dans l'histoire, c'est d'une part grâce à son célèbre patronyme, d'autre part grâce à ses récits de voyage en Allemagne, qui ont une valeur historique.
